Anterior Neck Region.

Date: March 16, 2021

Medium: Adobe photoshop and Illustrator

Audience: Educated lay audience

Purpose: To complete a greyscale anatomical illustration based on sketches made in Grant’s Museum and consulting references.

DEVELOPMENT 1: PHOTO REFERENCES

The design process began with choosing an anatomical region and creating a sketch, identifying and labelling prominent structures within the region, and finally creating a cleaned line drawing ideal for rendering the final illustration.

DEVELOPMENT 2: SKETCHING

I made a pencil sketch of the anatomical specimen (the structures of the anterior neck region) from observation in Grant’s museum at the University of Toronto. The sketch from stage 1 was cleaned up and the different structures of the neck including major arteries and veins, nerves, as well as muscles were made more prominent. Labels were also included in this stage for easier identification of structures.

DEVELOPMENT 3: REFINING

The stage 2 pencil drawing was brought into Adobe illustrator and the lines were cleaned further in preparation for the final tonal render. Based on feedback from the clients, the sizes and placement of structures were also corrected.
